The Discus-2c is a single-seat, high-performance sailplane by German glider manufacturer Schempp-Hirth. This is the Freeware Version of the Discus-2c Glider by Got Friends. If you like this add-on, feel free to purchase the Discus-2c Premium for additional gliding features.

The Discus-2c is a single-seat, high-performance sailplane by German glider manufacturer Schempp-Hirth. The sailplane also comes in a front electric sustainer version (FES) available for purchase in the Discus-2c Premium Edition. The Discus-2c features composite construction, advanced flight control surfaces for precise control, and a state-of-the-art wing design that maximizes glide performance and aerodynamic efficiency. The 18 meter version has a 28.5 aspect ratio and each version has a top speed of 174 miles per hour. One of the most advanced soaring craft ever developed, the incredible Discus-2c allows aviators to master the heights in the purest form of flight. Stay aloft in the mountains by riding ridge lift, circle into a cloud base on thermals, or just glide along silently on laminar air. The Discus-2c allows aviators to become one with the sky.

HOW TO INSTALL:

Locate your Microsoft Flight Simulator installation folder.
You need to locate and open the folder named Community.
Copy the "gotfriends-discus2c" folder you just extracted to the Community folder.
Read the included Flight Manual for an in-depth look into all the aircraft features.
Start the game and your Discus-2c will be sitting in your hanger ready to fly!

Very heavy impact on FPS. Tried exact same location, time and weather with Extra 300 and fps was very smooth. With this glider, unflyable fps.

UPDATE: after disabling GTN750, fps is perfectly fine. Gorgeous glider, lots of fun!

You probably just have to either update your GTN750, or remove it completely from the Community folder. Hope that solves it for you.

Yes! You were right! I disabled the GTN75O and fps is perfectly fine. Will look for an update of the GTN750 because I do need it with the H145. Thanks!

not sure if its your glider but i just went for a flight in the mountains and the frames are so bad. I checked fps and it was like 90-100fps but everything was so jittery for some reason. Not sure how that's possible.

Yep the sim is like that in mountains sometimes, can happen with any plane. Hopefully that's something Asobo improves in future sim updates.

Loving the premium discus already, a fantastic bird. I do most of my gliding around the Isle of Man so I'm a little disappointed to lose the coastal soaring preset but five stars nontheless.

Hi, nice glider, and looking forward for the new release with FES!!!... One question regarding the premium version, will it have full VR compatibility?... current version, as tested on a Quest 2, doesn't let you grab the control stick with the touch controllers. FS2020 says the model doesn't implement full VR capabilities upon start. Thank you for the hard work.

VR Controllers still aren't yet supported on the FES. We tried a few times to get it working but were unable to reach that goal for launch. We have a lead on what could be the problem and will be experiemnting with it sometime this week. If we get them working, we'll be sure to update both the standard and premium project in addition to all other aircraft in the GotFriends hanger.

If you see an update to the freeware, keep an eye on the release notes as we'll be sure to mention when full VR motion controller support has been added.

Hello there, probably a stupid question, but what is the best gliding speed for the default setup in FS2020? Thx. Great Glider but I did find a glitch on SU9 where the ballast valve opens and closes when a tow line is connected via Kinetic Assistant. I had my friend tow me in the air and it was opening and closing the whole time. Not sure if its just on a tow rope or if it's happening on the other launch methods. I haven't tested it further.

Any plans on making the distance calculator on the "flight computer" usable for X-Country flights? By now it adds every single circle to it's distance calculation so it's impossible to see how far you were actually flying because it obviously shows way more than the actual flown x-country distance.

This glider is SO MUCH fun. Easy to fly and trim, good default FOV. I just completed a 3 hour flight in Spain, hopping from ridge to ridge and finding a few thermals with Kinetic Assist too. Really can't fault this - thank you guys!

hi, it is nothing wrong with your setup. There are no thermals in MSFS implemented yet. You can just wind soaring along with the mountains or set big cumolonimbus clouds to get updraft under it. That is what i figured out. Or you use the kinetic client and inject thermal. That works ok. But it is not so that you fly under a cloud and get a chance of a thermal. best regards

Do I need Kinetic Assistant to use this Glider?

No, the Discus-2c has a fully functional Winch Launch built into the Navigation Display upon loading onto the flightline. You may choose cable length and cable speed prior to hitting launch. Thermal Activated Weather Presets are provided in this download and may be used to enhance your gliding experience. If you would like to use Multiplayer or AI Towing you will need to purchase the Discus-2c Premium Edition or download Kinetic Assistant. The Discus-2c has been designed in partnership with Touching Cloud and is 100% Compatible wil Kinetic Assistant if you choose to use that application.

Why does my Navigation Display looks like the Matrix and not working?

Please update your GTN-750 Addon or remove it completely from your Community
Folder. PMS50 is aware of the compatibility issue and we are working together to ensure this gets addressed in the future.

What Additional Hotkeys can I assign with this Glider?

The Discus-2c uses Lights as Multiplayer Variable Triggers. Therefore, you should never press "L" on your keboard in-game. Pressing “L” in-flight might make your flight, features, and experience broken and unflyable.

Here are the additional Hotkeys available with the Discus-2c:

Spoiler Axis: Recommend Assigning this to your Throttle for Variable Speed Brake Control.
Throttle Axis: Recommend Assigning this to a Slider or Knob for Realistic FES Control.
