Moving boats are good for you. This has been scientifically proven. By scientists.
This is library of 3d model boats that move ready to put into your projects. This is nothing like the Seafront Simulations and Global AI shipping mods as the included routes are nothing more than simple loops.
If you want something fancier then you can create your own routes and place them in them.
This was originally a small bunch of models with hard coded animated paths. They're still in there, but they're now pretty redundant. It's now largely a bunch of scenery object models and simobjects that are placed in worldscripts.
There are now over 200 ships of varying types - cargo, fishing, leisure, naval, workboat, rowing boats and more. Most of these boats have light, wakes, pisspoor smoke effects and are landable if they have a landing pad.
Each watercraft has its own worldscript ready to place but the routes aren't v exciting. Creating more excitement is on you.
There are two items in this download so click again to get the actual package - 'boat-library-moving'
The second bit is for developers with various instructions on how to mess with these in your own projects in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
Model credits - Valentina.Canniello, urbanhighenergy, P.F., Piil60, hclakmal519, Giuseppe Spinelli, alask, Yakudami, sergei, aptilla, MilkNAME8, HdlB, Piil60, fan3d, hungry_drifter, Jose da Costa, Db M, rubidu.
Large up to Mamu for making waypoint creation a lot less painful.
V 1.2
Adds a couple of hundred or more moving boats following routes utilising the gift of worldscripts. Also included is a guide on how to do it yourself. The original moving models with hard coded animated paths are still in there for practical, nostalgic, and religious, reasons.

Can we technically make certain boats appear or not depending on the weather, for example if it's a storm to avoid small cruising boats?

Works perfectly, looks great
and is a great upgrade for the MSFS.
It is compatible with SU11,
thanks for that

Any chances to add wakes to them? I mean, they are moving, right?
😉

Too late for these existing ones. They would have to be converted simobjects which means replacing them all so anyone else using this mod in theirs will have all the models disappear.
More importantly - I don't know how to do it.
I may look into it for future additions.

Cool idea with the moving boats, we need more animated objects in our scenery to breathe some life into them!

Yes. I hope to see these appearing in some more projects.
I'd really like to do some trains. They don't have to cover enormous distances, just move back and forth enough to be noticeable when you fly past.
It might be a long time before they appear officially.
But I've no idea how to get the model path to match elevations in the sim. Or curves if there are several sections of the train now I think about it.

Really nice work Superspud. Good to see the blender files have been made available as well for other projects

Thank you. I hope to see some creative uses.
I should've added how to change the path for those who are unfamiliar with it, but I can't take that much explaining today. Plus there's still enough that's mystifying me.

Thanks for creating this very original library! I even see captains at some of the vessels. About the visibility... Has not this to do with a value that can be set for each object in the sim? The payware addon Vessels Enhanced AI from Seafront Simulations, describes they have improved the visibility distance. So it must be settable in the modelconfiguration from MSFS. Just meant as tip...
Keep enjoying develloping your addon.

The sim will only display an object on screen once it reaches a certain percentage of screen space. That can't be adjusted.
You can fool it by adding a giant invisible boxes to force greater visibility, but if there isn't a physical appearance to project you're not going to see it until you're within the visibility parameters no matter what.
I also still can't tell whether the model itself or its path's point of origin decides the visibility. I need to do some more investigating.
Many of them are also not very big anyway. Speedboats in particular seem pretty hopeless. Sailboats are definitely much more visible at distance.
And of course I may well add some much larger ships too.

Very nice! I see you have a wind surfboard and a jetski. Any chance you could add a paddle board (with standup paddler), canoe and kayak? The kayak in particular I could use in a scenery I have developed. Thanks!
Aha, I just found the static boats library which has kayaks. That should be enough, although moving kayaks might be nice too. How fast/far do they move? I am just loading it all up and testing soon, I hope.

I can do moving kayaks but visibility will be hopeless. They won't appear until the very last moment. I guess that's fine for taking off but not for cruising about.
It looks like the normal tricks to increase visibility with static models don't work with moving ones. I still need to experiment with that.
Nothing's super fast. Most average between 10-20 kmh apart from the racing yacht and waterski boat.
