"The aircraft we flew were marginal. The airstrips were marginal. The afternoon weather was marginal. We were asking for trouble just being there."
--Matt McLaughlin, "Flying the Knife Edge"
This adds the remaining three missing bush strips in the Koiari (Kokoda Track) area: Boridi (BPB), Timkenumo (AYME), and Myola (AYMY). Fans of the old ORBX AYPY bush strips in previous sims will remember these.
(Bodinumu was also missing but a nice rendition has already been created by Callsign1065 here:
https://flightsim.to/file/25878/bodinumu-airstrip-bnm)
These are all real-world strips, created as accurately as I was able.
Timkenumo is high and steeply sloped, with a level parking area near the top. Some village buildings replaced as well.
Boridi is an evil little clay strip on a ridgetop; it slopes upward and to the right with undulations, and it also curves to the right as you head uphill. You want to touch down between the first and second sets of cones, before the dogleg to the right begins.
Myola is mostly disused these days; it's a remnant of the significant WWII history in the area. While it may not be frequently used in modern times, it's an interesting spot (a marshy lakebed high in a mountain bowl) with significant history, so I thought it should be included.
Most objects are native in the sim; to see the cone runway markers, this library is required:
https://flightsim.to/file/16007/msfs-object-library-with-150-models-ranging-from-towers-hangers-terminals-to-cones
(There are two folders worth of objects in this library; only "library1v9-cbj" is required for this scenery.)
INSTALLATION:
1. Unzip file.
2. Copy the 3 folders into your Community folder.
3. (Optional) To see the cone runway markers, copy the folder "library1v9-cbj" from this object library into your Community folder:
https://flightsim.to/file/16007/msfs-object-library-with-150-models-ranging-from-towers-hangers-terminals-to-cones
Thanks for adding these Kokoda Track strips. Most appreciated
Cheers
