Gelvin’s Strip, Alaska
Gelvin’s Strip is located on the Charley River within the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve in Alaska. The Charley River is one of the premier whitewater rivers in the state with many class-three sections. It also provides access for fishing, trapping and hunting and the occasional gold miner.
Gelvin’s is a public use strip providing access to the Charlie River. There is one public use cabin available on a first come first served basis and plenty of beaches for camping.
Southwest of the strip about one mile up the mountain is the crash site of a B-24 that went down in December of 1943 with a single survivor. A link to an article is included. The B-24 in the scenery is not a wreck, but as close as I could come at this time.
The strip is challenging and suited for small aircraft only.
I hope you enjoy it and I always welcome comments/feedback.
