KHYR - Sawyer County Airport - Hayward, WI
This an General Aviation Airport nestled in the woods of Northwest Wisconsin. It is a pilot controlled airport with two runways, 3-21 at 5000' asphalt and 16-34 at around 1800' of turf. The main runway (21) has an ILS approach.
This airport has a couple main uses, mostly it is small GA planes but it does see Jets coming in to Hayward Aviation as this is a popular vacation destination with is hunting and fishing options. Hayward is a very busy tourist town during the summer months and holds a large Cross Country Skiing event in the winter. Also I understand there is a sizable Beef Jerky company which has it's aviation department headquarted here.
The airport is also located along the Namekagon River. This is managed by the National Park Services and has excellent paddling options. I've taken numerous trips down the river canoeing and I've never been disappointed. Also, while you are in town, stop by the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame downtown!
This airport needed some help as it appears to have been modeled by default from a configuration about 10 years ago. As such, the new-ish parallel taxiway appears in the ground scenery but wasn't modeled as asphalt. I have added that along with adding numerous hangars and hand-placed taxi lights and signs throughout. Also, the forest was creeping up to the field far more than in real life so I have reduced the trees all around the airport making approaches to the turf runway possible (don't try it with the default unless you've got a helicopter!)
Dependencies - none as I made this airport with stock objects with the hope that some day it can be ingested in via the World Hub. At a minimum it would be nice to get the taxiway update in! I'll keep an eye open to see if it can be submitted some day.
As always, thanks for flying in Minnesota! And Wisconsin...I spend lots of time there too. ;)
